Dutch Oven Dump Cake

How To

  • For easier clean-up, line the Dutch oven with baking paper as neatly as possible

  • Dump the cans of fruit into the Dutch oven

  • Dump the cake mix on top

  • Dot with pieces of butter

  • Place on top of 7 - 8 coals in the campfire

  • Cover with the lid and top with about the equivalent of 14 briquettes or coals and bake for about 40 minutes, checking after 30 minutes

  • Cool slightly before serving

Variations

  • For a cake-like topping, pour one can of Sprite on top of the cake mix before baking.

  • For peach cobbler, use two cans of peaches instead of the cherries and pineapple.

  • For a Black Forest version, use two cans of cherries and a chocolate cake mix.

  • For a tropical delight, use lemon cake mix and top with coconut.

  • Use two 12-oz bags of frozen berries instead of canned fruit. You’ll want to add the can of Sprite to this one.

  • Use any fruit that you like inside and on top, serve with drizzled honey on top

  • 1 package yellow cake mix

  • 1 can cherry pie filling

  • 1 can crushed pineapple

  • 2 Tablespoons butter
